Academic Services |
|
Academic services at the Hunterdon Learning Center are individually
structured to guide students toward reaching their full potential
despite social, emotional, and academic challenges that have hindered
them previously. Academic instruction is typically one-to-one followed
by guided practice combined with group lessons and cooperative
learning activities. Although designed to meet the specific needs of
its students, the Hunterdon Learning Center’s curriculum meets New
Jersey Department of Education Standards.
Building organization and study skills. To improve organizational
skills and encourage homework completion, every student is supplied
with a Hunterdon Learning Center Master Notebook that is maintained
with daily teacher supervision. The Master Notebook is designed to
help students achieve the sequencing and planning skills needed for
academic success. The Notebook also serves as a reference and
communication tool for parents with regard to monitoring home work
assignments and academic progress.

Evaluating progress. Students receive mid-term progress reports, and
end of term report cards are issued four times per year as in
traditional school settings. Parents are considered an important part
of the school’s educational team and are welcome to call, e-mail, or
meet with any member of the staff to discuss their student’s progress.
Standardized testing and graduation requirements. Statewide
standardized assessments (e.g., HSPA, EOC, and |
 |
ASK) are administered in small group settings and provide for
individualized testing accommodations if specified in a student’s
individualized educational program. High school students are held
accountable for their local sending district’s graduation requirements
and attendance policies.
Extended School Year. A thirty day extended school year program is
offered to students who are at risk for experiencing academic or
behavioral regression during the summer break. Daily sessions occur in
July and August. |
