Our Programs
The Hunterdon Learning Center is a private day school for adolescents who are eligible for full time special services through their sending school districts. Most attending students have a history of behavioral or learning difficulties that have interfered with social and academic development.

Individualized instruction. Individualized programs of academic instruction are carefully planned for each student. All programs aim to help students set individual goals while obtaining the necessary information and skills to reach them. Students develop subject matter mastery through coursework designed to create stimulating and successful learning experiences.

Teaching responsibility and respect. The Hunterdon Learning Center is designed as a family-like community to provide an integrated educational and social experience for its members. Group and individual counseling and a wide range of extra-curricular activities provide opportunities to experience, discuss, and change social and behavioral responses. Staff members and students work together to create a healthy supportive school community that requires everyone to receive and assume responsibility for its maintenance. All community activities are carefully planned and structured to instill a sense of purpose, cooperation, respect, and value among its members.

Building self-confidence and reliability
. To summarize, although development of academic and employable skills is considered important at the Hunterdon Learning Center, the primary focus throughout a student’s placement centers on changing undesirable behavior and developing self-discipline and social responsibility. The entire educational effort seeks to increase students’ sense of personal value, self-confidence, self-control, reliability, and pride in belonging to a cooperative community that thrives because its members actively care about each other.
