Our Students
|
Hunterdon Learning Center students are:
-
between the ages of 12 and 18
-
eligible for full time out-of-district special services
-
currently enrolled from 36 school districts in 8 counties (Essex,
Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union,
Warren)
-
members of a school population of approximately 80 students that is
roughly 60 percent male and 40 percent female
Hunterdon Learning Center Students have:
-
experienced significant social and academic difficulties in
traditional school structures
-
struggled to access and develop the cognitive ability to succeed at
academic tasks
-
developed maladaptive coping behaviors as a result of these
obstacles
-
an appreciation for and an interest in learning about pro-social
values
-
a rich variety of gifts and talents that may not have been fully
developed in a traditional school setting
Hunterdon Learning Center students:
-
do not display patterns of physically aggressive behavior
-
do not display patterns of bullying or intimidating behavior
-
do not display patterns of anti-social behavior
Hunterdon Learning Center students benefit from:
-
small class size and personal attention
-
support, encouragement, accountability, and guidance

activities which are fun, exciting, and educationally and socially
rewarding
